Keller installed 1667 lime-cement columns with diameter of 600 mm.
A total of 20 000 meter of soil was mixed.
The project
Sluppen is a developing area in Trondheim. Lime-cement columns were chosen as the most suitable way of ground improvement and as the foundation method for a new building that was to be built in the area.
The challenge
The layer of clay in the area was quite thick. There were big depths to bedrock, so drilling to bedrock was not possible. There were also big variations in the clay and harder layers of clay made it problematic to penetrate with our drilling tool.
The solution
1539 single lime-cement columns were installed as ground improvement and foundation for the new building. In addition, 128 lime-cement columns were installed for a crane foundation. All the columns were established down to a harder layer in the ground.
Experience and competence was needed to achieve this according to drawings and specifications. To solve the problem with the shallow harder clay layers, the total area was extended with additional columns and areas to be improved.
