The project includes foundation of two new pedestrian bridges over FV47 in Haugesund. 3 galvanized steel pipes Ø813x20mm were drilled 2m into bedrock while keeping FV47 road through Haugesund open at all times. Camera inspections to prove the cleanliness of the pile foot.

FV47 Karmsundgata, Haugesund steel piles

The project

The FV47 in Haugesund will be extended from two to four lanes. Therefore, two new pedestrian bridges (Storasund and Håvåsen brigde) are to be built over the new road. The inner bridge pillars will be founded on the steel piles.

The challenge

  • Difficult logistics due to the very limited space, especially around Håvåsen bru.
  • Drilling works had to be executed right next to open and high frequency road, which could not be closed under any circumstances.
  • Careful cleaning of the pile foot since no powerful flushing could be used next to the road.
  • Preparation of large diameter galvanized steel pipes.

The solution

  • Necessary equipment at Håvåsen bru has been reduced to an absolute minimum. The remaining equipment has been placed around Storasund bru approx. 500 m away.
  • Lanes of FV47 Karmsundgata have been moved in close cooperation with Risa depending on the needs of the site.
  • Steel pipes were galvanized in one piece by a local supplier.
