Vestbanen - Nobels Fredssenter Oslo

The project

The Nobel Peace Center is a museum for the Nobel Peace Prize in the main building of the “Vestbanen”, centrally located on Rådhusplassen in Oslo. Based on the history of the peace prize and the prize winners, the Peace Center offers exhibitions, events, activities and digital communication. The reconstruction project requires stiffening and stabilization of the building with underpinning of current foundations with Jet grouting to ensure stabilization and minimize uneven settlements of the building.

The challenge

  • Drilling inside building with low headroom.
  • Bedrock connection to ensure stability.
  • Backflow management through existing basement with active facilities.
  • Prevent settlements of the existing building.

The solution

  • Rock water drilling with Wassara hammer.
  • Electrical Keller rig KB1-2 used for low headroom drilling inside building.
  • Backflow treatment by Keller’s Filterpress to achieve environmental requirements and feasible handling of backflow.
  • In-situ measuring of settlement.
